概要 | The fatigue strength of a notched specimen is larger than what can be expected from elastic stress calculation. This is due to the fact that the condition of fatigue fracture at a point of the specime...n, especially at a point where the stress has gradient, cannot be determined by the stress at the point under consideration only, but shows that the effect of the surrounding part of the point under consideration is very great. This idea suggests that a sharply notched specimen having a thin layer of greater strength than that of the ground material near the root of its notch will show greater resistance to fatigue than that which has no such layer. With this view the authors made rotary bending tests with sharply notched specimens. The strain-hardened layer formed by tools at the process of cutting the notch was used as hardened layer stated above. In order to relieve the specimens of the hardened layer one seires of the specimens were annealed above their allotropic point in vacuo after the specimens were formed. Two kinds of steels, low and medium carbon steels, were used and quite expected results were obtained.続きを見る |
