Katsumi Kaida was a professor at the Faculty of Medicine of Kyushu Imperial University, director of the Ikinomatsubara Branch of the Faculty of Medicine, and director of the Tuberculosis Research Institute of the Faculty of Medicine, and devoted his life to research on chest diseases and tuberculosis prevention and eradication. The majority of the collection was stored in the 3rd floor preservation stacks, unaccessioned and unorganized. Many of Katsumi Kaida's personal books are not yet owned in Japan. Fukuoka Prefecture, which had coal mines and the Kitakyushu industrial area, had a large number of people with chest diseases. The collection contains materials necessary for research on chest diseases from the 1935s to the 1950s. The collection was accepted and registered as a catalog in 2016.
