Kyushu, Fukuoka-Hakata, Nagasaki: Gateways to Asia and the World

Thanks to its location in northern Kyushu, close to continental Asia, international trade and exchange have flourished in Fukuoka—the home of Kyushu University—for centuries. Also located in northern Kyushu, Nagasaki developed as Japan’s only city open to the world under the Edo period policy of national isolation. This display introduces some old maps of Kyushu, Fukuoka-Hakata, and Nagasaki that were drawn in the early modern and modern period.
