It contains over 6,000 titles published between the late 17th and early 20th centuries. Over 7 million pages in total.
This is a collection that provides a sweeping view of the history of magazines in the United States, from the old days of the colonial period in the 18th century, when magazines were produced in imitation of the British, through the period after independence when the United States sought to create its own unique culture amid rising nationalism, to the period from the mid to late 19th century when many writers and thinkers were produced against the backdrop of flourishing publishing activities.
